Meeting the Demand: Strategies and Techniques for Tutoring Students across the Curriculum

October 3, 2008 through November 14, 2008 Meeting the Demand: Strategies and Techniques for Tutoring Students across the Curriculum, will be offered October 3 through November 14, 2008. 

  • Tutoring Developmental Students; ;

  • Tutoring ESL students;

  • Tutoring Students Taking Foreign Languages;

  • Tutoring in the Humanities;

  • Tutoring the Social Sciences;

  • Tutoring Writing;  

  • Tutoring Reading;

  • Tutoring Math;

  • Tutoring the Sciences;

  • Tutoring Students with Specific Disabilities (Vision Impaired, Hearing Impaired, ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia);

  • Tutoring in the Online Environment;

  • Tutoring Non-Traditional Students; and

  • Scenarios.

Workshop presenters include: Debra Boyle, Private Tutor; Charles Campbell, Eastern Kentucky University; Rebecca Daly-Cofer, Texas Technical University; Sara Dreisbach, Independence Community College; Johanna Dvorak, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; Linda Evans, Yavapai College; MaryAnn Ghosal, Eastern Kentucky University; Deborah Hardwick, Houston Community College; Donna Myers, Visually Impaired Student; Cindy Officer, Gallaudet University; Parker Owens, Eastern Kentucky University; Suzanne Robertshaw, Rollins College; Carol Scott,  Texas Technical University; Jim Valkenburg, Delta College.

A Chat Room feature will be added for this workshop.  Scheduled chats for each module will make communication between participants and presenters easier and will bring more in-depth interaction.

The intended audience is tutors and tutor trainers.   This workshop will count as two CEUs toward ATP Tutor or Tutor Trainer Certification.  A certificate of completion will be granted upon completion of the workshop. 

Registration for this course will run through September 29, 2008.

The cost of this workshop is $50 for ATP members and $75 for non-members.  However, you may become a member and enroll for the workshop at the same time.   Arrangements for payment will be honored, and participants will be registered and passwords e-mailed.  Instructions for the use of the teaching/learning platform will also be sent to each participant.  Please make certain you’re spam filters will accept email from me.

*This tutor training is not intended to take the place of training provided by colleges or organizations that already provide certification training for tutors. However, ATP online training workshops may contribute to a tutor's development and enhance such training if guided by the organization's tutor coordinator. For this reason, ATP encourages tutor coordinators to take ATP online training sessions along with their tutors-in-training.
