"I am happy to be associated with other individuals who over the years have proven their expertise in tutoring and have been actively engaged in bettering the profession. I believe we can make a difference and can help each other to develop an association of which all members can be proud."

Jim has been a tutor and tutor administrator since 1979, when he was hired as a Master Tutor at William Paterson College to fulfill his graduate assistant responsibilities. After a week on the job, he was hooked and knew that his life work would involve being an educator and a tutor. Since then, he has taught courses across the curriculum at five colleges in four states, and has been the director of two tutorial programs.

Jim believes that it is essential to bring new ideas to tutors at all levels of the profession—from students who are just beginning to professionals and administrators who have been involved for years.  He sees the ATP as a clearing-house of ideas governed by and guided in principle and in action by all of the members of the association.  He is the author of the book The Engaged Mind: Cognitive Skills and Learning.
